About
SoraMaterials Inc.SoraMaterials Inc. is a deep-tech startup spun out of Nagoya University. Guided by our vision, Bringing the Sky Closer Through Materials, we develop SoramateX, an ultra-lightweight functional material with a density of only 0.5 to 10 times that of air, and bring it into real-world applications. Core TechnologySoramateX uses a proprietary porous structure that makes it light enough to float in the air. Beyond its extreme lightness, it offers thermal insulation, sound absorption, and electromagnetic functionality. By achieving both radical weight reduction and high functionality, which conventional materials have struggled to do, we help solve technical bottlenecks in mobility sectors where weight directly affects performance, range, and cost. Key Applications & Target Markets- Spacecraft: lightweight thermal insulation and functional components- Aircraft: sound-absorbing and thermal insulation materials for airframes and cabins- Drones / AAM (Advanced Air Mobility): functional components that help reduce airframe weight- Automotive: weight reduction and greater comfort (thermal insulation and quietness) Business ModelWe support our partners' product development through three models: joint R&D, application-specific solution proposals, and manufacturing and licensing. We are currently commercializing our functional materials and building a mass-production system. In the mid to long term, we aim to expand into sound-absorbing and thermal insulation materials for aircraft. Key Achievements- Registered as a JAXA Partner Startup (2025)- Selected for the Cabinet Office's SIP (Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program)- Selected for the Knowledge Hub Aichi Priority Research Project- Exhibited at CES 2026; speaker at an official SXSW 2026 session- Winner of the Forbes JAPAN RISING STAR AWARD 2026, the ILS Startup AWARD 2024, and many other awards- Featured as one of Japan's leading innovative materials in INNOVATIVE MATERIALS From Japan, a Government of Japan international public relations program Who We Want to Meet at SWITCH 2026We'd like to meet aerospace and mobility companies working on weight reduction and on thermal, acoustic, or electromagnetic challenges. We are also looking for partners for joint development and commercialization in Asian markets, as well as investors. Please visit us at the Central Japan booth (P01) in the Global Zone. We look forward to meeting you.
